CURLING LEAGUES
Everyone has a story, and ours started three years ago when we launched our first league! Since then, we've added a variety of sports: Bocce Ball in the summer, Kubb in the fall, and of course Curling in the winter! Enjoy drinking award winning craft beer with friends, while playing an engaging sport that anyone can play!
We are currently FULL for the 2023 curling season, however, you can still sign up a team on the waitlist! Every year one or two teams from the waitlist get into the leagues. If you aren't familiar, or just forgot about the structure of curling here at Forgotten Star, it is slightly different from official curling regulations - it's more of a backyard style of curling. We install plastic vinyl over our bocce courts and flood them each winter to make two curling sheets. We use mini versions of curling stones, while using brooms to speed up or slow the stones down. It is a great way to have some outside fun during the winter, while drinking beer with friends. Additionally, you don't have to have a team to be part of the fun, sign up as a free agent this season! They league may be full, but the Free Agent List will always be open! The curling season is nearing, more information on the leagues is located below!

A BIT ABOUT THE CURLING LEAGUES
When signing up a team, there are a few things to keep in mind. For curling, a team is required to have a minimum of four team members per team, with one of those members being the team captain. The captains are responsible for registration/payment, informing the team about rules and regulations, along with informing the team about game times/updates. These team captains will also receive weekly emails that contain updates about the league, standings, and schedule. Additionally, we are using IMLeagues.com as an online platform for our leagues, where teams will have online access to view their schedules, standings and other league data.

Every league is an eight team league. Each week your team will play matches against two different opponents. Start times will vary throughout the season: 5:45pm & 6:45p or 7:45pm & 8:45pm. This is a 7-week league (Thursday league is 6-week.) If the weather makes for unplayable outdoor conditions, we will move inside and substitute bags as a replacement sport. However, these "flex day" wins only count as half a win (or half a loss). If weather and/or travel conditions are too dangerous for matches to take place, we will refund a portion of the league fees.

Thursday February 16th, is that dates that the top 3 teams of each league will compete for the title of 2023 Curling Champion. The number one seeded teams of each league will receive a bye for the first round of this tournament. There will only be ONE champion of all the leagues. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. First place will be remembered forever on the champions wall, and will have the opportunity to engrave their team name on our trophy!

The admission to the 2023 Curling League includes FREE & EARLY access to Forgotten Star's Bonspiel Tournament, February 17th-19th ($200+ value.) That's right, league teams get in for free! If you don't know what Bonspiel is, it is our HUGE curling tournament complete with food trucks, costume contests, live music, vendors, and more! It is by far our biggest and most anticipated winter event!
IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LEAGUES

Covering the ice from the sun with a UV protecting tarp to have better/ constant ice conditions. Along with maintenance/recovery days for ice to improve/ heal.

Later start times so team members don't have to rush to early games. Additionally, stricter rules on snow sweeping & no show teams.

Alternate indoor games (bags) if weather is too extreme to play outdoors.

BECOME A FREE AGENT
For this season, we are adding free agents to the mix! Submit a request to be place on the Free Agent's List to make yourself available for league teams to reach out to you if they would like to grow their team, need an extra body for a certain night, or just looking to meet new people!

Free agents can play on multiple teams, even in the same league. They will remain on the Free Agent's List until they request to be taken off for any reason (found a permanent team, moved away, etc.). It is up to the teams to communicate everything/anything to the free agents. The League Director can answer questions/concerns but will not place free agents on a team.
